The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) was looking for a quick and efficient way to launch new websites for select products and affiliate organizations. They wanted these websites to have a simple and minimalist design, but still represent the IFMA brand consistently. My assignment was to build a template with enough flexibility to meet the individual needs of each client while retaining a look and feel consistent with our other company websites. Given the need for high flexibility and painless customization, WordPress was the platform of choice. Using PHP and the Bootstrap framework, I built the WordPress theme completely from scratch. I used CSS and jQuery to ensure the site was responsive for mobile users. I also used Hammer.js to integrate swipe gesture functionality for mobile devices. In addition to building the template, I selected the core plugins that would be used by the site to provide dynamic features like sliding image carousels, event management, news announcements and a contact form. We launched many sites with this template and provided detailed documentation and training to each stakeholder so they would be able to manage their own content. We received frequent positive feedback on this template as well as many requests from other affiliates to launch their sites on the same template.
